Opted for a second hand driveshaft with new universal joints today. Fitted but no test drive yet 🥵.

See now that was stupid...

Drove of for Poland friday before easter, with an untested prop shaft and within 2km it proved to be a major mistake anything over 80km/t made the car shake..

Trying to catch a ferry, we drove on, and it got better but not perfect.. 5 days on polish roads you dont feel it, but back home again its unbearable, removed the propshaft and now we are waiting for new Universal joints for the old prop shaft.. which was knackered before.. So the trip to Borås Jeepklub Softtrail is canceled :(  Maybe the parts will be here friday and ill get the time this weekend to change them.

Time´s flying and i´m trying to diagnose a "pling" sound i get from the transmission some times.  I cant replicated the the exact movement but i appears now and then on often after gear changes. i´ve been over propshafts, emergency brake, most of the bearings and nothing seems obvious, nor can i replicate the sound when the car is up in the air.

So i tend to  go on with other projects.

So the dual battery setup has startede. I got a ctek splitcharger last christmas, and the "pond" for the middle seat.

Test fitting the CTEk and a breaker.  I´m not sure its the way i want to go..  so its back to the drawing board.

Earlier this May there was a Outdoor fair close by and we went there to look for an extension to the MSR hiking tent. There was an interesting little detail to a rooftop tent at the fair.

The l shaped rails  with a cargo net attached.. This is was a great idea for boots and shoes when camping in the wet.

So now all i need is to find these sort of rails and cargonet from biltema.

In the workshop department, the truck had a new fanbelt, wich was a 15 minutes job

Out with old, and in with the new (no picture...)

In preparation for Overlanding Expo 2019 in august we where looking for a bike rack that could swing away from the truck, so we could carry bikes but still use the backdoor. My thule pivots down and leaves 50 cm to open the door..

1ed69960417295419b70adf0c9f620b2.jpeg

I came really close to buying this dutch swing away tow ball carrier for fitting my existing bike rack, but 725€ was WAY over the budget..

 Van-tow3-web-500x500.jpg

Looking at multiple fiamma campervan bikeracks and "dreaming" multiple spare wheel carrying ideas.. 🤣

And found on used i wanted to buy online and weld some sort of mounting plate for...

I read the ad again until it dawned on me that it stated that it was for hanging ON the spare wheel, it was 7km from home and the bloke was negotiable for price..

Suddenly i was out the door, and came home with this "little" gadget

6df8b39a1237bd3fb9cb70ddfb77eb3a.jpeg

Bikes tested on and they clear the tent underside :-)

3cfe50cd5c8561ffa8a624fe4aa145b3.jpeg

And clear the bodyside when the door is opening.

It needs new straps to fix it down, but thats fixable.

Next project is rear brakepads.. hopefully a quick job

And the a new sump gasket (that will be at my mates garage)

Brakepad change on a Defender should be like a walk in the park😊

Snyggt Jesper!

When these wires short circuit you will discover that the same fuse also controls the "antitheft thing" (startsperre) so you will not be able to start your car. If I remember correctly you will get a flashing engine symbol on your dashboard. The wires LR have used are made from the cheapest possible plastic they could get, they have the same breaking strength as knäkkebröd😂

Preparing for vacation in 3 weeks already started 😉

Extra license plate for the bike rack and lights had to be made.

and for the sake of it I made a new front license plate bracket a bit more sturdy then the old one.

Time for more maintenance.

The Crankshaft Pulley wheel needed replacing.

Off to my mates place..

He´s got loads of cars standing around including this 86" series one :-)

The car´s on the lift and we are trying to work the bolt loose, from 460nm. torque.

When the pulley got back on we had to torque it back in at 460nm. so the big tools had to come out

Sadly we had to remove the radiator and intercooler to get it all back together. (wich added like 2 hours to the project)

Back home and running nicely again.

The rest of the CTEK charger project had to be done.

:-) NEW TOOL

Finally there :-)

Ctek D250sa with  10mm2 Connection cables between the batteries.

70amp breaker for the rear aux electrics

A 12v outlet (always on) and a USB 2.1 amp. outlet (always on) for ipad charging.

Sadly i won´t fit my 12-220v inverter down there so i need to find an alternative place for it..

Poking around my mates workshop i impressed with the parts he has "floating"

And found this little nice 90" that i woul love to get my hands on...

I keep adding stuff to the pre vacation todo list..

prepared the Ctek d250s for solar input. And then later realised I had a 10 year old solar panel laying around somewhere..

Found the panel and hooked it up expected  nothing to happen.. it is over 10 years old technology...

But hey presto...

00435459-7991-4435-B0C2-87A9626DF42F.thumb.jpeg.ab9aaecf92d39bc599968362290cfe13.jpeg

the little panel charged from about 80% to about 100% in a day..  NOT bad at all maybe a new panel would do better but this is fine for now..

Had a dream of doing a swivel table for the Stowe and by coincidence talked to a colleague about it..

The drawing was made earlier this year and thrown away.. So had to dig it out of my brain again and think it over..

Back home from vacation and overlanding.nu  Expo 2019 the var has to go to the MOT for the annual “syn”

Looking the car over I found the headlight electrical adjusters didn’t work (had a warning last year) a bent trailing arm and a really bad UJ on the rear propshaft..

38D84F23-6861-45A0-BA68-0A456352CCCF.thumb.jpeg.df58ad6fb7c934af31ce6bb5af81e439.jpeg

UJ was a pain to get out, and I had to cut the one out with a grinder... 😤🤬

The trailing arm (rear right) came out easy enough, but the bushings for the new one and getting the new one in place put up a fight..

All out and cleaned up..

1 hour later the new one had put up a hell of a fight not to fit.. but I won...

Tonight I will install the propshaft and tomorrow wipe of all the excess oil and go to the MOT station 🤞🤞🤞
